What Your Eyes Say About You

Your eyes can tell a story. For many people, the eyes are the most expressive part of non-verbal communications. Shooting daggers when we are angry; lighting up when we are happy; deep and troubled when we are sad.

The eyes are also one of the most prominent features we have. Others look at our eyes when we are speaking to them, to judge our reactions. Keeping your eyes at their best will help you give the strongest overall impression.

Don’t let your eyes tell the story you don’t want to share. Red-rimmed or bloodshot eyes can come either from allergies, lack of sleep or too much indulgence the night before. Keep your eyes crystal clear with eye drops or moisturizing solutions to reduce any redness.

The area around the eyes is often the first place that shows fine lines and wrinkles. Use a daily moisturizing cream specifically designed for this tender area. Don’t pull or rub at the skin below the eye. If you find the under eye area is looking puffy, some cool teabags or slices of cucumber are a great fix to bring it under control.

Keeping yourself healthy will also keep your eyes looking healthy. Iron deficiencies can reveal itself as deep, dark patches that often resemble bruising under the eyes. Dehydration is also reflected in the areas around the eyes. Consult with a doctor or nutritionist to make sure you are getting all the proper supplements and vitamins you need to look and feel your best.

Use care when applying eye shadow, eyeliner and mascara. Again, don’t pull on the skin around the eyes when applying your cosmetics. Choose colours that reflect your natural colour best. Trends in eye make-up come and go, so choose a style that is best for you. For example, if you have wrinkles beneath the eyes, adding powder or eye shadow often makes the lines more noticeable. Instead, use your eye make-up to enhance the area just below the brow, drawing attention away from the fine lines.

Eye care is important so you always look your best. If you take great care of your eyes, you will always know what story they are telling about you.
